The manager taxonomy
Three axes read off the brochure text, not off a vendor category. Counts are firms on the 2026-08-03 roster with a Part 2A profile.
axis oneWhat the firm isprimary_type → subtype
Mutually exclusive. A subtype is always a child of one primary_type.

membership rule
The brochure describes running money in products — funds, SMAs, mandates — for someone else’s clients. The subtype says which kind of book.
Nine subtypes carry real volume, from 1,934 public-markets managers down to 50 digital-asset shops. Pick the subtype, not the parent, when you want a peer group.

A firm that is both a wealth manager and a broker-dealer is still a wealth manager. Without this column, dually_registered_bd would have to fight primary_type for the slot and wreck the classification.

Krane Funds Advisorsgrowth_biased → Deep Value · vg 2.54
China ETF issuer. The market it buys is cheap; that has nothing to do with whether it wants to be a growth manager.
GQG Partnersblend → Deep Value · vg 1.98
The brochure says “higher-quality, growing companies”. The book is low-P/B energy and emerging markets.
Ares Managementblend → Deep Value · vg 1.62
P/B 2.87 is cheap, P/E 55.2 is not. The two legs disagree — which is why both are printed.
H. M. Payson & Co.value_biased → Growth-Biased · vg 0.66
An old trust house whose long book is now large-cap growth: P/B 11.79 against an anchor of 6.89.
Whale Rock Capitalblend → Deep Growth · vg 0.53
One of the most extreme growth books on the scale, with equity_styles reading [value] on the brochure.
Elliott Investment Mgmtblend → Deep Value · vg 1.72
For an activist, cheapness is the entry condition, not the style label.
A conflict is not an accusation. Krane is priced by the market it buys; Elliott’s cheapness is an input to the strategy, not a style claim; Ares has a cheap P/B leg fighting a 55× P/E leg. Every conflict cell opens onto the brochure sentence, the top ten holdings, and both legs of the score — a bare red badge is the one thing this layer must never ship.

What it says · Part 2A
LPC is a hedge fund manager running long/short equity strategies with fundamental bottom-up research, also managing private equity funds and co-investment vehicles.

On the long side, LPC generally seeks investments in equity and equity-related securities of three different types of companies: (i) growth companies, where capital can be invested in the business at a high rate of return for a long period of time; (ii) highly cash-generative businesses with only modest growth opportunities where management is aggressively using the cash for the benefit of shareholders...

The brochure states gross portfolio leverage of roughly 2:1 with a short book (Item 8, p.16). The revealed profile above contains zero shorts: it is the long book only, so it overstates net length and hides every hedge.
report_period 2026-03-31, computed 2026-07-01: a single quarter with a 45-day lag, and institution_style keeps only the latest one. For drift, recompute from institutional_holdings (eight quarters).
